Pilot training has a 98% fatality rate, meaning only the absolute strongest and most skilled recruits ever make it out alive. ![]() The path to become a Pilot is grueling and deadly. Or there may be a training program specifically set up on behalf of the Militia. ![]() Titan pilots, disaffected by what they've seen on behalf of IMC, may have defected and joined the Militia. Like its Titans, it is not entirely clear where the Militia gets its pilots. It also explains why Frontier Titans have the same variant chassis as the IMC. This is likely because they're repurposed or recycled from scrapped, captured, or destroyed IMC Titans. Militia Titans have a battle-worn, less polished look than the Titans of the IMC. The company isn't specifically linked in the game to the Militia's Titans, but official merchandise and material for the game makes reference to this mysterious Hammond competitor. The IMC's Titans are produced by long-time partner Hammond Robotics, while the Militia's are related to an organization known as Kodi Industries. What isn't clear is how the Frontier came in possession of its own Titans. The Militia relied on anti-Titan weaponry such as the shield-busting Charge Rifle in order to stay in the fight. At the onset of the conflict, only the IMC possessed Titans. But unlike the events of Titanfall, during the Titan Wars, the Titans themselves were most decidedly not distributed equally. The IMC and the Militia locked horns over their shared resources vision for the future. Two decades before the events of Titanfall, a conflict known as the Titan Wars began. The difference in the core philosophies of how the Frontier should be exploited is what drives Titanfall’s conflict. It isn't quite cut-and-dry, however, as not everyone in the Frontier believes the militia is watching out for their best interests. The Militia exists to protect the rights and holdings of the individuals who want to make it on their own in the wilds of space. The IMC seeks to continue its corporate exploitation of the valuable assets of the frontier for the gain of its stockholders. Not only would these modifications fill out the world Respawn Entertainment worked so hard to create, they allow backstory to develop through multiplayer. Each faction wants to control the frontier for its own purpose. These bonuses could include additional Titan customization parts, player abilities and more. Each of these matches can feature a set of different game modes for both player factions – and the winning faction would take control of the planet/base along with bonuses. Similar to Star Wars Battlefront’s galactic conquest, different factions could compete in regular multiplayer matches to gain control of different planets and bases across the Frontier. By doing so, Respawn Entertainment could conceive an online multiplayer world where players could fight for specific territories that provide bonuses. By developing an alliance or allegiance-based system into Titanfall 2’s multiplayer similar to that in Mortal Kombat or The Last of Us, Respawn could create one hell of a multiplayer experience for everyone who hops online to play.Įssentially, players could choose between the IMC and Militia factions for a limited amount of time. So when the online world appeared and was limited to a few different game modes on a decent selection of maps, I couldn’t help but wonder what Titanfall could have been - if they had an alliance system and a persistent online world featuring the game’s two factions, the IMC and Militia. When Titanfall was first announced, many people assumed that it would be a more ambitious project. It looks like this rich universe will realize fruition in Titanfall 2. Honestly, it reminded me of a Firefly-like world mixed with a little bit of StarCraft. ![]() In 2014, Titanfall’s website had a ton of background about the game’s world, and it was compelling, believable and unique. So it’s safe to say we might be getting a more grounded universe the second time around, which is great news – especially since the lore already exists, and it’s a phenomenal concept. We imagined the next generation of immigrants moving out to the new frontier of an inhabitable planet.” In an interview with Forbes Titanfall’s lead writer Jesse Stern briefly explained the next installment: “So we are doing our best to deliver a vision of grand global colonial warfare retelling the story of the American Revolution and the American Civil War in space. With the sequel, it’s safe to say we’ll be getting one. Back in 2014, many Titanfall players complained that no single-player campaign explained the story. ![]()
